A teen-led theater nonprofit
Next Scene NY is a teen-directed, teen-performed, and teen-founded theater company, established in 2025 by Roy Pan when he was a freshman in high school. Every aspect of our company is led by teens—from directors and music directors to choreographers, stage crew, production teams, and even our entire board of directors. Our mission is to make theater more inclusive and accessible in Rockland County by giving young artists the opportunity to lead, create, and perform. We provide space for every teen to find their place onstage, backstage, or as part of a creative team.
We work collaboratively with the Rockland County YMCA and their Teens in Action program to expand opportunities for youth involvement. Through collaboration, storytelling, and hands-on experience, we aim to build community, inspire confidence, and nurture the next generation of theater makers—all powered entirely by teens.
About Our Founder
Founder & Executive Artistic Director, Roy Pan, founded Next Scene NY as a freshman in high school. Roy began performing when he was four years old in local community theaters, and over the years his passion for theater has grown. He loves singing, dancing, acting, and writing his own songs. He continues to write music and hopes to produce more of his own work in the future.
Roy is currently a sophomore and has always loved being part of theater, but he wanted the chance to direct for the first time. He thought it would be a great idea to create a company where everything is led by teens—directors, choreographers, music directors, stage crew, production teams, and the board are all teens. Through Next Scene NY, Roy hopes to give other young artists the chance to lead, create, and perform. He dreams of pursuing musical theater, the performing arts, and a career in music.
